A proposed national examination timetable for 2027 has placed the NECO SSCE ahead of the WAEC WASSCE, following a meeting held on September 30, 2026, between the Honourable Minister of State for Education, examination bodies and representatives of private schools.
Under the proposed timetable:
• JAMB UTME: March 15–25, 2027
• NECO SSCE: April 1–May 14, 2027
• WAEC WASSCE: May 11–June 18, 2027
• NABTEB: June–July 2027
• NBAIS: June–July 2027
This means that, if confirmed by the respective examination bodies, NECO SSCE will commence before the 2027 WAEC WASSCE, unlike the sequence many candidates are accustomed to.
However, the dates are currently proposed and subject to confirmation by the respective examination bodies. Registration dates and some result-release dates are also yet to be communicated.
75% TRCN-QUALIFIED TEACHERS REQUIREMENT
The meeting also resolved that schools seeking approval to serve as examination centres must ensure that at least 75% of their teachers are TRCN-licensed by December 11, 2026.
Compliance will be verified, and schools that meet the requirement will have their details uploaded to the designated registration portal.
In
Schools that fail to meet the requirement will not be approved to serve as examination centres.
Further details on the implementation of the resolutions are expected to be communicated in due course.
