The Federal Government has announced a new Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (2026–2027) for Nigerians who are currently teaching but do not have a professional education qualification.
The programme is designed to provide eligible teachers with a structured pathway to gain professional teaching qualifications and strengthen their teaching careers.
Who Should Apply?
According to the announcement, the pathway is open to:
* Non-education Bachelor’s degree holders currently teaching
* HND holders in non-education fields who are teaching
* ND/OND holders in non-education fields currently teaching
* Community instructors and volunteer educators
* Educators in public and non-state schools
* Instructors in TVET institutions
* Facilitators in non-formal and alternative learning settings
Available Programmes
Two qualification pathways are highlighted:
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
* Bachelor’s degree holders in non-education fields
* HND holders in non-education fields
* Minimum of 24 months of classroom teaching experience
Professional Diploma in Education (PDE)
* ND or NQ qualifications in non-education fields
* Minimum of 24 months of classroom teaching experience
Benefits of Participation
Successful participants are expected to receive benefits including:
1. Formal induction into the teaching profession
2. Enhanced professional competence
3. Professional qualification
4. TRCN registration
5. Improved career growth opportunities
6. Recognition as a qualified professional teacher in Nigeria
