SIWES is trending because ITF has started paying students from 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 batches, the whooping ₦15k stipend at random, leaving many surprised., this comes after NANS intentional intervention.
However, graduates who did their SIWES as far back as 2015/19 still think it’s a myth, as they are yet to be paid.
The ₦15k stipend is supposed to be paid almost immediately after the completion of the 3-6 months compulsory academic requirement training, by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), which has been in existence since 1973.
It’s calculated at ₦2,500 monthly. For 6 months, you get ₦15k; for 4 months IT you get ₦10k; for 3 months IT, you are ineligible.
Yet, even after meeting all requirements, payment is never guaranteed.
Over the years, SIWES stipends have become a matter of luck, habitually delayed, and so unreliable that students no longer expect them.
An ITF agent recently explained the delays citing; insufficient government funding, institutional bottlenecks such as schools failing to submit the students log book, details, and delays in verifying students’ records.
Most beneficiaries paid today completed their SIWES in September or October 2025, but not everyone from those batches received payment.
Even students from the same institution are being paid randomly, with payments extending to backlogs dating as far back as 2022.
In December 2025, NANS urged FG to probe the habitual delay of payments. In July 2026, NANS launched a portal to collate details of students who hadn’t been paid (itf.nanshq.org) for escalation.
Now, students are wondering whether they were paid because of elections, or it was a geniune payment, and why it isn’t general.
