The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), an initiative designed to support student innovation, entrepreneurship, research and the development of solutions to real-world challenges.

According to the ministry, the programme is open to students across Nigerian tertiary institutions, including both public and private institutions. Eligible students can submit innovative businesses, ventures and projects for consideration for equity-free seed funding and other programme support.

The inaugural 2025 cohort reportedly attracted over 17,240 student applicants from 404 tertiary institutions. Following the selection process, 45 student beneficiaries were selected and received a total of ₦50 million in equity-free grant funding to develop and scale their ventures.

For the 2026 cohort, the ministry is encouraging tertiary institutions to sensitise students and ensure that eligible student innovators and entrepreneurs are aware of the opportunity.

The grant is aimed at students with promising ideas, businesses, research projects or innovative solutions with the potential to create impact and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.

Students interested in applying are advised to check the official application guidelines, eligibility requirements, submission process and deadline before submitting their applications.
